“The journey of thousand miles begins with a single step.”_ Lao Tzu
Meriyakhedi village is a small rural area that is situated in Chanchora block of Guna district. The locals were facing trouble in collecting water as they had only one hand-pump. Soochna Seva team was in a field visit when this issue came to their notice. One of the team members encouraged the villagers to report in the C.M. Helpline no 181 so that their complaint will get registered. But none was convinced by them and hinted that only Gram Sabha Representative can take the action. After distributing forms of ‘Pradhan Mantri Jan Dhan Yojna’, the team contacted the representative and discussed the situation with him.
Initially the representative was not interested in registering the matter. He commented, “Which C. M. helpline no!! No one can ever repair the broken hand-pumps!!” But the team was adamant and eventually convinced him to write a complaint letter to the PHE department as well as make a call in the helpline number. Finally he agreed and did the same. Since, the matter was too small for anyone to remember, so people almost forgot about the phone call.
One fine day there was a call from block office in Soochna Seva Kendra inquiring about the location of broken hand-pumps. The fellows at Meriyakhedi village rushed to the village to help the mechanic and assisted the workers in the repair work. The villagers gathered around them and as soon as the water oozed out from the hand-pump everyone breathed a sigh of relief. The Gram Sabha Representative thanked Soochna Seva team and understood that a small step taken can do wonders and all it needs is to take that step.
