A new service in the basket, Umri Panchyat, Madhya Pradesh
One of the Soochna Seva team members, Bhure Singh was assigned the task to go for a door-to-door visit in Barkhedi Maharaj village that lies on the State Highway 38 in Madhya Pradesh. While he was strolling in the village to meet the locals he got tired and was thirsty. So he searched for nearby hand-pumps and after finding one he tried to draw water but no water came out of the nozzle. He questioned a passerby and learned that the hand pump was out of order for the last two month.
He felt pity on the situation. Later on, he contacted the Sarpanch(Gram Sabha Representative) and wrote an application and submitted in the Public Health Engineering (PHE) department. Initially the officials at PHE department were not interested in the work and gave lame excuses bout scarcity of pipes.
Villagers informed Bhure Singh that the excuses are simply gross as parts of the hand pump and pipes were present within the premises of the PHE office. So, he and some the villagers took one of the officials to the location where the parts were lying. He questioned the officer about the insensitive attitude towards the situation and requested him to visit the village and repair the hand pump. At last the PHE officials had to surrender and went along with Bhure Singh to the village and repaired the hand pump.
