Soon after Sohan Singh’s son Manjeet finished his schooling, he would loiter around the village all day long. Sohan wanted his son to pursue hotel management but they were not financially sound let him pursue the career of his choice. At a time when they barely had food to eat, higher education seemed like a distant dream. However, their dream was fulfilled when Soochna Seva organised a meet for the youth in Kangsali village in Pratap Nagar block of Tehri Garhwal district (Uttarakhand). At this meet, Manjeet was informed about hotel management professional courses and the universities that offer degree courses.
He was also informed about Central and State Government scholarship and education loan schemes that could help lessen the financial burden on his father for his education. Today, Manjeet is a student of hotel management.
Similar to Manjeet Singh’s story is is the story of Rajesh Singh who resides in the same village. After completing Senior Secondary education he wanted to pursue hotel management. However, due to their weak financial condition, the family couldn’t afford tuition fees of Rs. 50,000 for his higher education. Soochna Seva Team guided him to apply for university entrance examinations. Today Rajesh and his parents are extremely obliged to the Soochna Seva Team, as with their guidance Rajesh was selected on merit basis for a hotel management course with zero tuition fees.
