Modassir Alam (14) and Mojakir Alam (12) of Kranji village, Bedo block, Ranchi always wanted to learn computers but the poor financial condition of their family restrained them. They are studying in class 9 and 8 respectively in a government school. Their parents died seven years ago and since then their uncle has been taking care of them.
It was his initiative to enrol the boys in the basic digital literacy course provided by the Digital Empowerment Foundation at Soochna Seva Kendra (SSK). When Modassir’s uncle’s visited the SSK, he learned about the importance of computer education and job prospective in the field. He enrolled them in the course paying a minimum fee of Rs 150.
It was because of Soochna Seva team’s intervention that the students’ desire to learn computers was fulfilled. Within two months, the boys completed their course and received the ‘Certificate of Completion’ certified by Intel Corporation.
