Phoolmati Devi (65) received full pension for the first time after Soochna Sevak’s mediation. She is a beneficiary of Widow Pension for the past two years and entitled to receive a financial assistance of Rs 400 a month. She had not been getting the due money because of financial swindling by a Gram Sevak. In an interval of 2 -3 months, the Gram Sevak used to collect money from Block Development Officer (BDO) but never used to dispense exact amount to the beneficiaries who were ignorant about his financial misdeed.
After learning about the unlawful activity, the Soochna Seva team inspected the bank passbook of Phoolmati Devi provided by Social Welfare Department. They found out that in passbook the precise amount was listed but Phoolmati received less money. The team approached the Gram Sevak and questioned him. However, he refused to accept his fault and there was no official record that could prove him wrong. The team sought the help of BDO and informed him that the Gram Sevak cheat the poor and uneducated villagers. He would keep 200 or 300 rupees from each beneficiary’s sum before distributing the money.
The BDO took immediate action and directed him to distribute money sincerely and warned him to be careful in future. The next day, Gram Sevak returned the swindled money to Phoolmati and other beneficiaries.
