Open Defecation free village – Dhamkan, Guna
Soochna Seva, a European Commission sponsored project of Digital Empowerment Foundation is working for betterment of BPL families of West Champaran District. To do this DEF has channels viz Soochna Seva Kendr, a team of 18 Sochna Mitra, a Soochna Vahan and Nagrik Suvidha Kendr. DEF also innovate so that new ways of communication can be developed to reach far and wide.
Among the above four channel, Soochna Seva Kendra (SSK) is the most used platform by public. This is so as these centers are situated in locations where there is dearth of information and absences of DS/DL. SSK provides these services in a location where these services are lacking and that’s SSKs USP and is popular among public. Keeping this in mind, DEF has come up with new Centre as a channel, which is Oracle CIRC centre.
Two new Oracle CIRC centre were to be opened at West Champaran and one of them was to be opened at Bhitiharwah panchayat. Bhitiharwah panchayat (twenty thousand population) has six villages namely, Bharatwa(RV), Shrirampur (RV), Meghwali, Bhitiharwah (RV), Khohargadi (RV) and Marjadi (RV). All the villages are within in 5 km radius. Bharatwa, Shrirampur,Bhitiharwah and Meghwali consist of SC and OBC population whereas Khohargadi and Marjadi has ST population(Tharu).
The village lays roughly between the two centers Narkatiyaganj (commercial centr) and Gaunha (govt. centre). To reach the village, one needs to take a share auto or take bus. In nutshell, the village is remote and population here is marginalized in every aspect.
The centre is located at a School which is dedicated to Kasturba Gandhi who during her visit to Champaran started a school for girls. This school which since its inspection is run on pure volunteer basis and education to girls here is free of cost. This centre was inaugurated by Shri. Vinya Verma local MLA of Narkatiyaganj.
During his inaugural speech the MLA appreciated DEF for starting the Oracle CIRC centre at school. He also requested for more such partnership for Madarsa in his constituency too. He also spent some time on computers. The Principal, Shri. Dipendar Vajpayee narrated the how this school has come in to existences and thanked the villagers for their support.
Soochna Seva team informed the gathering about Soochna Seva work. Its objective and kind of work it undertakes. The team also took the opportunity to introduce Soochna Seva Vahan to honorable MLA.
