Patudi village in Tehri had been risking their lives for the past 20 years due to live wires hanging from electric poles. The poles are in dilapidated condition and the electric department of the Chamba block never paid attention to these grave issues. The villagers found difficulty while commuting at night and even the distance between the wires and ground is less than the height of an average man. This is dangerous not only for adults but also for cattle as they might get caught while grazing.
Soochna Seva team intervened to resolve this issue so that people can commute safely in that area. This time instead of just writing letters to high officials, the team sought another medium to reach out the mass. The message was spread through the help of radio. The team went to radio station of Henalvani and broadcasted the voices of the helpless.
This drew attention on the daily newspaper Dainik Jagran and they also printed the news in their paper. The efforts did not go in vain and soon they began taking shape, within a week the electric poles were changed and wires were replaced also.
The team is working to rectify other villages’ wires as 60 % of the electric poles and wires are in terrible condition.
