Soochna Seva teams conducted information sharing drive in five districts—Barmer (Rajasthan), Ranchi (Jharkhand), Tehri Garhwal (Uttrakhand), West Champaran (Bihar) and Guna (Madhya Pradesh)— to celebrate the RTI Day (October 12).
To create awareness on the RTI Act and educate people about the procedures for obtaining information under the Act, Soochna Seva teams held community meetings, staged street plays and rallies in these districts.
Small community meetings were conducted in villages of Baitu and Dhanau block in Barmer district. The SSK team interacted with women, youth and daily wage labourers and explained the procedure to avail information from any government department. Women were shown videos about the RTI and were encouraged to file application under the Act to seek answers about the shortcomings in the release of payments under the MGNREGA. Around 26 RTI applications were filed in Barmer alone.
In West Champaran, the SSK team showed a step-by-step process of filing an RTI to villagers and motivated them to approach any public authority or government body to get the information required. They were informed that the authorities will reply within 30 days. In Tehri Garhwal, Soochna Seva team collaborated with a local NGOs and addressed a huge gathering at Community Centre to spread awareness on the RTI among the rural populace. They encouraged the audience to file RTI applications to receive the desired information from the government agencies.
Soochna Seva team in Ranchi informed villages about the Act and other government schemes. In Itki block of Ranchi, Soochna Sevaks and volunteers rallied inside the village along with banners and placards demonstrating ‘Soochna ka Adhikaar Diwas’. Later in the evening, a street play on the RTI Act was staged at the Soochna Seva Kendra.
